My Story

I grew up in New Jersey, where I played several different sports throughout my life including field hockey, soccer, softball, basketball, gymnastics, dance, cross country, and bowling. I started watching football with my dad when I was about 10 years old, and the more I watched it, the more I fell in love with the sport. Unfortunately, football was a sport I never had the opportunity to play as a girl, but I still had a passion for the game. While watching games, I noticed the women on the field reporting, and that's when I realized I could still have a role in the game of football. That leads me to where I am today, following my passion for football and other sports to share compelling stories with fans about their favorite athletes and teams.

In my time at Cronkite, I have had the opportunity to gain experience in many sectors of sports journalism and media. I wrote print and digital stories covering high school athletes and teams in Phoenix, Arizona with publications in The East Valley Tribune. On the broadcast side, I have covered high school athletics and local events that aired on Cronkite News/Arizona PBS. I am also a member of the Stream Team, where I have gained experience directing, running graphics and operating cameras to produce live broadcasts for Arizona State University athletic events.

Personal Leadership Statement

I will use my platform as a successful woman in sports media to inspire young girls who want to work in the sports world. My goal is to be the woman who shares the same feeling of empowerment I felt the first time I turned on the television and saw a female reporter standing on a football field.

Sports are universal. They are played and watched by people of all genders, races, and cultures across the globe. Women need to be represented in sports media to show we are fully capable reporters with refined understandings of sports and the impact they hold in society. A girl should not feel discouraged because she loves a male-dominant sport, or because society dictates women as unfit to play or talk about those sports.

The amount of passion sports fans have in their hearts is hard to find anywhere else. It is my passion to contribute to those fans by reporting on their favorite teams. I hope that in the future, I can influence more girls to follow their passions in working with, talking about, and being involved in the sports they love.
